Featured Author: Gina Easton

Get to know the author behind "Moonshadow Monster", Gina Easton. Her story is featured in our newly released anthology "It Calls From the Forest" Volume Two"

Gina Easton is a writer who, after working for many years as a registered nurse, has finally decided to pursue her long-time goal of becoming an author. She has had several short-

stories accepted for publication in horror anthologies and magazines.

She also has two horror /dark fantasy novels due for release in 2020.

Have you always written, or was there a catalyst that prompted you to begin this journey?

I have been writing since I was a child, but because I had a satisfying and rewarding career as a registered nurse I didn’t have the time to focus as much on the writing. Then, after a disability prevented me from resuming my nursing career, I decided it was a great opportunity to devote my time to writing professionally.

What is your favourite genre to read?

I absolutely adore horror, but I also read mystery and sci-fi.

Do you remember the first piece of writing shared publicly? What were people’s reactions, but more importantly how did you react getting it out there?

I do remember. I was taking a course in creative writing and it was my turn to share a story. I was gratified at the positive feedback, but more importantly I overcame a reluctance I’d always felt about my work being read and critiqued by others. { I am so over that now!}

What is your workspace like? What kind of atmosphere do you need to write?

I consider myself fortunate in that I seem to be able to write wherever and whenever I like. My working space is often cluttered. My husband can be watching TV a few meters away. Sometimes I’ve even written while someone is standing there talking to me. If the ideas and words want out, then out they come.

Horror occasionally veers into the paranormal or supernatural, that's what makes it fun in my opinion. Do you believe in the supernatural?

Absolutely. Without a doubt.

Without giving too much away, tell us about the short story you have featured in “It calls to the Forest: Volume Two”. What inspired you?

The story, Moonshadow Monster, is one of the first stories I wrote quite a while ago. I was inspired by one of the great horror writers of our time, Stephen King. While I enjoy his novels of course, I have always considered him to be a master of the short-story format. After some editing and updating of the story I decided to submit it. I think the characters are strong and interesting and hope the readers will also.
